Anke Richter was born and raised in Germany and immigrated to Aotearoa New Zealand in 2003. She works as a foreign correspondent, columnist and freelance reporter for international and NZ publications like North & South, The Spinoff, NZ Geographic, Canvas and NZ Listener. Her investigation about the disastrous aftermath of Centrepoint was nominated for the WinTec Press Club Award and led to two documentaries. During the pandemic, she co-founded the anti-disinformation group FACT (Fight Against Conspiracy Theories).
Cult Trip: Inside the World of Coercion & Control (HarperCollins) is her latest book about her ten-year research in high-control groups from Gloriavale to the new-age scene. Her three previous non-fiction books were published in Germany.
